THE PRICKLY PAIR

LA-based singer-songwriters Irene Greene and Mason Summit form the alternative country duo known as The Prickly Pair. The duo have recently joined forces on the new project, combining their experience and talents developed over years of work in other musical pursuits.

Mason Summit has been producing and arranging his own music as well as others’ since his early teen years while learning to play multiple types of guitars, piano and many other instruments and played in various bands and projects. Complimenting his abilities, Irene Greene brings her rich vocal offering which perfectly captures their music’s complex emotions.

Bringing us their introduction, they share their new debut single with the track “Rosemary”. The debut single is a beautifully crafted song about heartbreak and resignation, carried by Greene’s impassioned and soulful vocal delivery.

Inspired by the often overlooked historical figure of Rosemary Kennedy, sister of John and Robert, “Rosemary” lays down The Prickly Pairs intricate yet angsty Americana style. While not explicitly about Rosemary Kennedy, the song uses her story as a jumping off point for a very personal exploration, with echoes of her struggles with developmental issues and subsequent abusive treatment from her family.

With a modern, but nostalgic folk sound, the duo aims to capture the sound of what country, or any other kind of music was once upon a time. On the debut single, Irene Greene offers, “You always hear about the Kennedys and how they were maybe unlucky, tragically. But I thought that in this case it was really that they were hurting one of their own. I thought it was interesting that I’d never heard anything about her, so I did some research and it really hit home for me.
