IRIS DOE
IRIS DOE’S ”THE TIMES” is a blazing new rock track from Jeffrey Cain, formerly of Remy Zero. With a giant guitar wash and a lyric shoutout to Neil Young, the song echoes the best of the 90's shoegaze movement (think My Bloody Valentine or Ride) but confidently takes the style into modern production territory, with intricate, beautiful guitar details swimming through the oceanic soundscape. The effect is sonic wonder, erupting beneath a rock n roll deadpan vocal:
Hey hey hey my my my
Our hope will never die
Talk is cheap and you can't look me in the eye
So hey hey hey bye bye bye
When you learn that the song was recorded during a weel spent in Dave Grohl’s studio, it makes perfect sense. Taking advantage of a smorgasbord of vintage gear including the classic Neve 8028 mixing board from the renowned Sound City studios, Jeffrey crafted a huge sound with collaborators Eric Avery of Jane’s Addiction on bass, Jebin Bruni on keys, and Leslie Van Treese on drums. Take a dive into their ocean.
